This Week in Rock Music News

Written by: Teodor Nihtianov

Thank whatever rock deity you follow because the clouds have finally parted and some truly godly news have made their way to my newsfeed. Not to completely dispel last week’s column-worthy news or the week before that, but I cannot help but favor some weeks over others. After all it is only natural to fall into the black hole that is fandom.

You see avid readers, this week I laid my eyes upon a combination of words that said “Jack White” and “new song.”  If that doesn’t stir the pot enough, there was also something about “Led Zeppelin” and “Tina Turner” so go ahead and blame me for picking favorites because I have a comeback in the form of “Radiohead” and “new album.”

Jack White Releases New Song for Upcoming Album ‘Lazaretto’

This musician’s achievements are as monumental as they are brilliant and it is so invigorating to hear that he plans to release a new album. Titled Lazaretto, which is by the way the two mile long strip located outside of Venice where people sick with the plague were cared for, will be out June 10th. Along with this comes a priceless video containing White’s new song “High Ball Stepper.” It is a growling instrumental and a perfectly mysterious lead-in to the new album. Check out video below.

Tina Turner Records with Led Zeppelin

It seems unlikely but totally makes sense; like a paradox but real and one that should have happened a long time ago. One part legendary band that needs no introduction and one part renowned vocal goddess that unsurprisingly also needs no introduction. Mix that up and you get an album of American blues and folk classics as well as one original song.  Very rare and cool when Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees collaborate on a recording.  So far a Plant & Turner duet called “Saltflower” is confirmed on the album along with some classics like “Wade in the Water” and “Jack O’ Diamonds.” The new material will be available sometime in later this month.

Radiohead To “Make a Plan’ For New Album This Summer

What fan doesn’t want to hear that their all-time favorite band is comparing themselves to a “slow-moving animal” that will begin moving once again towards the end of the summer? In translation, Radiohead will discuss plans for a new album and they are not even giving us a taste of what’s to come. Not even a damn five second snippet from Yorke and the boys. Pay no mind to my frustration as I have been starved of original Radiohead material since the The King of Limbs. Some people just need more Radiohead than others.

Corey Taylor Calls Out KISS For “Petty and Ridiculous” Rock Hall Drama

Mr. Taylor (Slipknot, Stone Sour) pretty much sledge-hammered the nail on the head as he rightly pointed out KISS’s excessive pettiness and disrespect to their fans via an interview with To catch you up, KISS members Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons refused to play at the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony for reasons beyond our mortal understanding.

You see as certified rock gods these two members can seemingly get away with saying “We’re not going to risk tarnishing what we’ve build to for 40 years just to satisfy someone’s penchant for nostalgia.”  It is truly frustrating to see an iconic, albeit musically average, rock band boil down to such childish emotions.

Cory Taylor sums it up perfectly: “Can you guys just put aside your petty issues and realize that without one another you wouldn’t have been able to do this? Can you just set stuff aside and do one show for the fans as the original lineup again? And then you never have to see each other again!”

Please do stop the madness, if not for the fans’ sake, do it for mine. I am tired of reporting KISS drama week in and week out, you are turning me into a TMZ minion.

Flea to Chronicle Drugs, Rebellion and ‘Bohemian Life’ in New Memoir

Michael Balzary in all his Fleaness has decided to release a personal memoir chronicling his Illiad-esque epic adventure containing hard drugs, funk-rock glory and bohemia. The man is a wonderful composer and easily one of the greatest bass players of all time, so my money is on this being an amazing read. There is no release date as of right now but I will keep you posted.

Aerosmith Announce 2014 Tour With Slash

Unfortunately this is not yet official as there are no tour dates announced, but fortunately it is absolutely happening.  Both Aerosmith’s Joe Petty and Slash posted about a mutual USA tour on Twitter so look forward to that as it will surely be a scorcher.  Check Puluche Tour Dates section as we’ll keep you posted on those tour dates.
