An artist’s Twitter can provide fans with a peek inside their heroes’ innermost souls, a real-time commentary on creativity and humanity colliding in an effort to advance the human race as we know it. Or, more likely, it can be a place for quick one-liners, Instagram gags, and the utter randomness that make someone’s personality their personality. Ideally, it gives people an idea of what an artist is like offstage while also injecting a little showtime entertainment value. Here are some of our current faves, in alphabetical order. Follow away.

Andrew W.K. [@AndrewWK]

The ultimate guide to Partying Hard. From a man who knows what he’s talking about. Because partying isn’t just a thing to do. It’s a way of life.

PARTY WISH: I want to be the human version of seasoned ground beef, shredded cheese, and refried beans on pizza.
— ANDREW WK (@AndrewWK) November 5, 2012

Multimedia: The party continues on Flickr and Twitpic, where Andrew posts photos of himself (and his fans) in a constant state of mid-party.

Will he @ you back? No. Too busy partying. –Amy Phillips

I’m partying so hard right now, I’m not even aware of it.

Best Coast [@best_coast]
Since the release of Bethany Cosentino’s countrified second LP, The Only Place, Bratty B doesn’t tweet about pot or her cat Snacks as much– but counting that as a strike against her would be relegating her as a one-trick-pony in the 140-Character Musings department. She’s always offering tidbits from home and the road, ranging from curious fashion choices to, yes, pictures of her cat Snacks— because, you know, old habits die hard.

Multimedia: She’s on Instagram, and it’s a compendium of her day-to-day life, from snaps of E-cigarettes to photos of hanging with randos in swimming pools.
Will she @ you back? Maybe a retweet, if you’re tweeting about Best Coast’s music. –Larry Fitzmaurice

Cat Power [@CATPOWER]
Gone are the days when the once-reclusive Chan Marshall would perform with her back to audiences, and her frequently updated Twitter account– part tour travelogue, part fittingly cryptic lunar calendar (“MOON SAYS GO TO MEXICO TOMORROW”)– is an unfiltered window into Marshall’s one-in-a-million mind. One more reason Marshall just might be indie rock’s Lil B: She tweets like her caps lock is broken, which only adds to her account’s strange, zen-like steez. THANK YOU BASED CHAN.

Multimedia: God, yes. On a good day, Marshall will post about a dozen Instagrams. The images are just as intimate as her tweets.
Will she @ you back? Doubtful, unless you’re friends IRL. –Lindsay Zoladz

Christopher Owens [@Chri55yBaby]
In July, Christopher Owens took to Twitter to announce his departure from Girls, so if you’re at all interested in news regarding his career, Owens’ account is clearly a must-follow. When he’s not breaking his own stories, though, Owens seems to live on Twitter regardless, visually chronicling his own insomnia, talking about what he’s been listening to lately, and issuing truisms that would scan as corny if they weren’t, you know, true.

Imagining Mr. Burns from The Simpsons doing an album of Bob Dylan covers… Endless Lols

Multimedia: A wide array of images can be found through Twitpic, from San Francisco sunsets to webcam riffs on new-classic trash flick Wild Things.
Will he @ you back? Probably, especially if you talk to him about sports. –LF

Today a friend—with his words—restored my belief in my self and my purpose. And so, I will live the rest of my life. Thank you

Danny Brown [@XDannyXBrownX]

The Detroit rapper’s Twitter is besieged by endless tides of retweets from girls trying to one-up Danny’s graphic descriptions of sex on XXX, blasts of his trademark shit-eating-grin honesty, and serious music-nerd ruminations.

@ralph_rocboy: You gotta love the way Danny Brown makes Givenchy look ratchet lol. High end so wat?!” #ThisisTrue
— Danny Brown (@XDannyXBrownX) December 8, 2012

Multimedia: Danny’s also pretty active on Instagram, posting shots of himself (and others) making his #thizzing face, updates from tours, and shit he likes (shoes, t-shirts, Bruiser).
Will he @ you back? The dude RT’s and responds more than almost any artist we know, it’s a minor miracle he’s able to get anything else accomplished. –Jayson Greene
